Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai Chemia publishes fundamental studies in all phases of chemistry and chemical engineering. Coverage includes experimental and theoretical reports on quantitative studies of structure and thermodynamics, kinetics, mechanisms of reactions, inorganic, organic, organometallic chemistry, biochemistry, computational chemistry, solid-state phenomena, surface chemistry, chemical technology and environmental chemistry.

The journal Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai was founded in Cluj in 1955 under the name Bulletin of the "V. Babeş" and "Bolyai" Universities with the Social Sciences and Natural Sciences series; Between 1958-1961: Studia Universitatum Victor Babeş et Bolyai, series I, Matematica, Fizica, Chimie, ISSN 0578-5413, Tomus 3, nr.1 (1958) - Tomus 6, nr.2 (1961); between 1962-1974: Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai series Chemia, ISSN 0039-3401; from 1975 - until now: Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai Chemia, ISSN 1224-7154.
