Abstract:  Today, we take part in an academic manifestation and, at the same time, in an ecumenical one – and when I say “ecumenical”, I refer to the primary meaning of the word – because we render homage to the illustrious theologian and representative of the See of Constantinople, the Most Reverent Ioannis Zizioulas. Thus, the constellation of the Doctors Honoris Causa of our University is enriched by a prominent representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchy, along with the most illustrious Ecumenical Patriarch, His Sanctity Bartolomeus the Ist. The ecumenical magnitude of the event is sustained, nevertheless, by the fact that His Most Reverent is a firm supporter of the ecumenical actions and of the inter-confessional dialogue. The academic aspect is strengthened by the fact that the Metropolitan Zizioulas is a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences in Athens (since 1993) and, since 2002, the very president of this Academy.
