  Abstract:

Love as the Deepest Reason for Suffering. A Philosophical – Theological Analysis Following the Thinking of Saint Thomas Aquinas and of John Paul II. Suffering in its phisical and moral dimension is interpelling everyone. Which is its main cause? Two perspectives are keeping us attentive: the evil – which is a privation of the human being of a phisical or moral necessary good -, and the good which is co-natural with the human person and his final destination to happiness. So, the complete answer is to be found in the registry of good, of the natural habits. But, because the love is the first act of the natural habits as well as of the passions of the human being, love is also the deepest cause of suffering. Only in love for Christ, suffering becomes the source for our salvation.

Keywords: love, suffering, pain, evil, good, salvation.
