Die Präambel zur „Verfassung für Europa”, die als Entwurf am 20. Juni 2003 dem Europäischen Rat überreicht wurde, beruft sich u. a. ausdrücklich auf die “kulturellen, religiösen und humanistischen Überlieferungen Europas, deren Werte in seinem Erbe weiter lebendig sind”.
Ohne Zweifel zählt zu diesen Überlieferungen die europäische Reformation des 16. Jahrhunderts. Dabei darf keinesfalls übersehen werden, dass 2000 Jahre abendländisches Christentum zugleich 500 Jahre Reformation bedeuten. Wenn wir hier nach Impulsen fragen, die aus dem frühneuzeitlichen reformatorischen Aufbruch herkommend die Gesellschaft der Moderne mit geprägt haben und mit prägen, so soll vor allem auf die Wittenberger Reformation eingegangen werden.
