Abstract:  The discovery of God’s name (Yahwe) that reveals His essence, represented for Hebrews the culmination of Old Testament revelation. The teophany from Horeb (Exodus 3) became the undeniable sign of God’s fidelity and providence and the testimony that God will be present permanent with His people until He will realize the covenants made to their parents Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The major importance of this name (Yahwe) engendered inside Judaism then Christianity the developing of an impressive speciality (literature). In spite of all this, in this study I will touch only few aspects that I considered more representative: in the first section I will approach the controversial point of personal name of God origin, then I will try the decription of the Tetragram’s (YHWH) primordial acceptance and the elucidation of the interdiction of pronouncing the holy name; in the second and in the last section of this study I will suggest to analyze two essential coordinates of Yahwe name: the personal presence of God trough/in His name and the sotiric dimension that results from Tethagram’s invocation. I will refer also to the overtones that God’s name received in Christianity. The conclusion will offer the reader some terms of reference to understand the apart meanings that God’s name has in the life of the one that searches the communion with Him.
