Abstract:  By Abraham’s Faith. Humanity and Waiting in the Book of Genesis 18, 1-15. The well-known scene with Abraham of Mamre found in Genesis 18, 1-15 is characterised by a number of details with an emphasised theophanic significance. The main event is God’s appearance/manifestation in the presence of three angels (men) before Abraham. This apparition/manifestation can be included as well within Abraham’s interior and exterior field of view, the macrocosm – God’s great dwelling place – and the microcosm – man’s temporary house; the place of relationship, of encounter between the master of the house and the Master of the Universe. The theophany symbolically represents the encounter between the Creator and the creature, between the God of fulfilled promises and man who faithfully waits for the fulfillment of divine promises. In the Divine Economy, God’s appearance ontologically changes the human nature destiny, which became – through Adam – the new humanity that (similar to its model) needs to take on the hospitality, attention, devotedness, waiting capacity and trust full of hope and surrender before the Creator.

Keywords: Abraham, rock, trust, faith, hope, waiting, abandonment, promise.
