  Abstract:  Legile somtuare şi curtezanele veneţiene din secolul al XV-lea. Urcarea pe tronul pontifical a papilor umanişti Nicolae al V-lea şi Pius al II-lea a transformat Curia romană într-un lăcaş al literaţilor, filosofilor, filologilor şi poeţilor, persoane rafinate care, la rândul lor, s-au înconjurat de o întreagă suită de femei frumoase, inteligente şi educate, aşa-numitele curtezane. Autorităţile locale din oraşe ca Roma, Veneţia sau Florenţa au încercat să limiteze luxul excesiv al acestor femei de moravuri uşoare, prin emiterea de nenumărate decrete şi legi somptuare, dovadă a ineficienţei sistemului şi a variatelor strategii de eludare.
