  Abstract:   Volendo parlare dell’ateismo come forza storica, Maritain prende come esempio tipico il comunismo russo, che ha alla base l’ateismo di Marx. L’ateismo non è una conseguenza del sistema sociale del comunismo; al contrario, è il punto di partenza.Secondo Maritain, all’origine dell’avversione del pensiero comunista, dell’ideologia atea contro la fede cristiana c’è la colpa del mondo cristiano che è stato infedele ai suoi principi.Ma la tragedia di questo pensiero è che ha esteso questo risentimento contro il cristianesimo stesso, e contro ogni forma di intelligenza naturale. Alla fine questo stesso risentimento si ripercuoterà contro la verità stessa.
