  Abstract:  The paper describes the preparation of CeCl3 × 7 H2O polycrystalline material and the growth of pure and Gd3+ doped single crystals of this type. The crystal structure was identified by X ray diffraction methods. The absorption spectra in the UV, VIS and IR domains were studied. The EPR spectrum, consisting from the fine structure transition lines, was determined for the Gd3+ doped single crystals.
