Abstract:  Polymeric composite films for dental applications are synthesized and characterized with respect to their structural properties. The composite samples consist of polymers including as reinforcement phase inorganic nanostructured particles. The key to realize dental composites having adequate properties is the homogenous dispersion in the polymer matrix of a low content of inorganic nanoparticles. Dental fillers based on resin composites reinforced with ZrO2 and SiO2 were obtained by hydrothermal methods. The crystal sizes identified in the ZrO2 and SiO2 – ZrO2 inorganic phases are ranging from 4 nm to 50 nm. By introducing different ratios of the synthesized nanostructured fillers into a dimethacrylic organic matrix we have realized films using UV and visible initiatory system. The adherence of these films on dental device substrate depend on their structural properties.

Keywords: Polymeric composite films, nanostructured fillers, dental coatings
