Abstract: The present study was carried out with the intention of thermally analyse bone samples of different origins and of determining heat treatment temperatures proper for developing a method to obtain hydroxyapatite (HAP) powder usable for biomedical applications. Bones studied here were deer antler, human skull, cattle, pig, fish, hen and turkey. The results show that the removal of the organic matrix can be achieved by heat treatments applied above 500°C. At the same time it was evidenced that the organic matrix has sensibly different content in the investigated samples, depending on the bone nature. Keywords: DTA, DSC, natural hydroxyapatite. |
