XPS STUDY OF METHEMOGLOBIN ADSORPTION ONTO GLUTARALDEHYDE FUNCTIONALIZED BIOACTIVE GLASS AT DIFFERENT IONIC STRENGTHS. Authors: E. VANEA. |
||||||
Abstract: In this study, the surface sensitive spectroscopic method X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was applied to obtain information on methemoglobin adsorption onto sol-gel derived 45S5 bioactive glass surface in solutions of different salt concentrations. The adsorption behavior was also followed by Brunauer-Emmitt-Teller (BET) surface area and pore volume evaluation, before and after protein adsorption. It was found that a low salt concentration has a beneficial effect on the methemoglobin adsorption. Keywords: biomaterials; surface functionalization; protein adsorption; XPS.
