  Article:   XRD AND FTIR INVESTIGATION OF ZIRCONIA-TOUGHENED ALUMINA COMPOSITES.

  Abstract:  Structural effects induced by progressive addition of zirconia to monolithic (100-x)Al2O3•xZrO2 (x ≤ 30 vol%) composites prepared by spark plasma sintering were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The relative intensities of XRD peaks corresponding to alumina and zirconia are proportional to Al2O3/ZrO2 ratio of the composite samples. FTIR results inform additionally on the changes occurred in the short range order structure of aluminum atoms in these alumina-zirconia composites.
