Abstract:  The Cartesian Doctrine on the Creation of the Eternal Truths and the Theme of Incomprehensibility. Our study herewith aims at discerning the correlation between the manner in which the 1630 Cartesian doctrine with regard to the created eternal truths unfolds and the theme of incomprehensibility. Taking into account the fact that the emergence of this subject is historically simultaneous with the emergence of the doctrine, we can infer that the making of the doctrine of truths must be structurally marked by the incomprehensibility of their origins, and so, of the infinite divinity that institutes them. This correlation is being highlighted by a close reading of the three letters under scrutiny here. Furthermore, we believe that the place this doctrine holds within the corpus of Descartes’ thought may be much better circumscribed once we grasp the implications of incomprehensibility.

Keywords: Descartes, eternal truths, logical space, incomprehensibility, infinity.
