Depuis quelques décennies déjà, la littérature africaine d’expression française connaît quelques figures d’écrivaines de première importance qui problématisent dans leurs textes la condition de la femme africaine comme Mariama Bâ, une sorte d’initiatrice du récit intimiste à ce sujet, Aoua Keita, Ken Bugul, Calixthe Beyala, Aminata Sow Fall, Fatou Diome, Marie Ndiaye et beaucoup d’autres. Djaïli Amadou Amal, d’une génération un peu plus récente, n’est pas très éloignée de point de vue thématique de ses devancières. L’écrivaine d’origine camerounaise vient de publier en 2020 Les impatientes, un roman polyphonique dans lequel se croisent les destins de trois jeunes femmes victimes des violences conjugales.
