Abstract: Homosexuality in Romania in the Time of Communism based on the Novel Cloaca Maxima by Const. Popescu. The paper is a detailed presentation of the situation of the LGBT-Community in Romania during communism, based on the analysis of the novel Cloaca maxima by Const. Popescu, which represents a chronicle of those times. The author describes in a realistic manner, using an explicit language the situation of a marginalized and persecuted sexual minority. He analyzes with refinement the various types of masculinity and homoerotic relationships. Besides the realistic language, the author also uses the camouflage technique, the hermetic language, symbols and a large spectrum of strategies, meant to hide the homoerotic message or to send specific signals to the meant reader. Keywords: Cloaca Maxima, LGBT Community, sanction, discrimination, camouflage, homoerotic symbolism, cruising codes, pluriperspective novel.
