Abstract:  The Construction of Meaning in Ion Minulescu’s Poetry: Textual Networks. The present study aims, on the one hand, at evoking and delimiting the theoretical premises of a textual model advanced by the linguist and semiotician Carmen Vlad (2000, 2003). She metaphorically calls this model the iceberg text, a (macro) sign-based configuration in the functioning of various textual typologies, built around the concept of a textual network that is open as regards the number of constitutive items. On the other hand, the textual-interpretative analysis of several excerpts from Ion Minulescu’s poems seeks to prove that the theoretical model is functional, by identifying such homogeneous links of signs (networks) in the construction and articulation of meaning. Symbolist aesthetics (to which the poet Ion Minulescu subscribes) allows for the reading / interpretation of the Romanțe cycle on an olfactory isotopy or an isotopy of various synaesthetic “correspondences”. The symbolists’ proneness to uncanny rhymes and melodious lines contributes to the configuration of the intonational-musical network of a text.

Keywords: textual network, isotopy, synaesthesia, intertextuality, prosodic configuration, inferences, symbolism, meaning.
