Abstract:  Subordination Elements in Romance Languages: Their Implication in the Presence or the Absence of Sequence of Tenses. The study analyzes firstly the operation of subordination in an agglutinative language - Turkish - whose syntax is similar to that of the old Indo-European. It follows the gradual installation of a new type of subordination - verbal subordination - from Indo-European to Latin and Romance languages up to clarify the conjunctions’ function in the operation of the sequence of tenses. This offers a report on the reasons for the absence of the sequence of tenses in the Romanian language.

Keywords: Romance Language, agglutinative language, Indo-European, Latin, Sequence of Tenses
