Abstract: V2 and the postposition of the subject in Danish, old French, and modern French. This article deals with the phenomenon V2 and the postposition of the subject in Danish, old French, and modern French. Danish is a strict V2 language. Strongly inspired by the Germanic, the old French is also a V2 language, whereas modern French has evolved towards an SVO language. The author suggests a hypothesis that can explain this change. Keywords: V2, subject inversion, language typology, phrase structure.
