Abstract:  Notional Chronology and Auxiliarity in Portuguese: the case of the verb ter. In both romance and germanic languages at least, there is a strong connection between the notional chronology of lexemes and those verbs committed to an auxiliary role. The psychomecanism of internal subduction (= episodic lexical dematerialization) is the revelatory fact of such a connection. Keywords : notional chronology, lexical dematerialization, primary auxiliaries, portuguese
