  Abstract:   Mafalda in France, Portugal and Brazil – Picture and humour as the touchstone for comic translation. This article is about Mafalda, the famous comic strip of the Argentinian cartoonist Quino (Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón’s pen name). The main focus of the article is to enlighten, through the confrontation between spanish original strip and its translations into French, european Portuguese and brazilian Portughese, the comics translation and its specific processes. How to make a stranger reader laugh by putting him inside a world as peculiar as the one of Mafalda, the protester ?
