Abstract:  The book under review here is a slightly revised version of Magdalena Ciubăncan’s doctoral dissertation defended at “Babeş-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca. This is a work in comparative grammar which aims to delineate and characterize the parameters that underlie cross-linguistic differences between Japanese and English causative constructions. These predicate structures of these two languages are examined both from a semantic and from a syntactic perspective, with the discussion of the syntactic aspects following the description of the semantic features. From the point of view of its structure, the discussion in this book - centred around five chapters - is preceded by some introductory remarks and a list of abbreviations and at the end of the book the reader finds a long list of bibliography.
