Abstract: Generally, Xunzi is known to represent the realist side of confucianism at the end of the pre-imperial era. His theory about the evil human nature follows the conception of the confucian school. Human nature is analyzed according to the dichotomy inborn nature – artificial nature, and the contradictions generated are revealed.
