  Abstract:  Margurerite Duras and the Time-Image of Visual Narratives. This text focuses on the intercutting of narrative techniques in the movie-making and non-narrative-writings of Marguerite Duras. A central operative concept is the visual narrative and the key role of the Deleuzian time-image in its configuration. Against this theoretical and conceptual background the text focuses on a few symptomatic examples of Marguerite Duras’ fiction (in Moderato Cantabile) and cinema (India Song) in order to illustrate the underlying intersections, mutual contaminations and reconfigurations between the two types of narrative forms (cinematic and literary). In this respect the text differentiates between the non-narrative fictions and what will be referred to as false non-narratives (narratives, which might be wrongly labelled as non-narratives because of the narrative techniques they employ, but which are nevertheless narrative as they ultimately privilege the plot, the unfolding of events). With visual narratives the content is organically created (recalled) by its form, which makes the imprint of auteurism. The text focuses largely on the occurrence of two-sided images (the Deleuzian actual and virtual sides) and the effect and function of opsigns and sonsigns with Duras’ non-narratives (be it cinematic or literary) in their relation with time.
