Abstract:  These pages focus on the Romanian linguistic research of the 19th century, especially on the period known as the School of Transylvania. We aim to present - especially to the German readers – the most important aspects of the Romanian linguistics. The beginnings of the linguistic school of Cluj are linked to the name of Sextil Puşcariu. Sextil Puşcariu’s activity as well as that of the research institute he has created had a considerable influence even on german scholars of romanistics.

Key words: romanistics, romanian linguistics, Sextil Puşcariu
