Abstract:  Paul Claudel and the Embodyment through the Word. This paper deals with problems of utter importance in the field of semiotics: the extent to which the myth of the embodiment through the word as the ultimate theophany is manifest in the theological, philosophical and literary discourse of the 20th century; the means by which God communicates Himself to us; the fashion in which Claudel’s text is a concrete realisation of the embodiment through the word resulting in the literary and theo-logical discourse. The author concludes: every text, the literary text par excellence, is an object consisting of the “body of the word”, as Greimas puts it; knowing the Divine, the Invisible, can only be achieved through mediation and not directly. Thus, the literary text in Claudel’s case, functions as a “mirror” which mediates, in fragments and glimpses, the knowing of The Other who exists beyond the “objectal screen”.
