  Abstract:  Après un premier volume critique intitulé Jean Rouaud et le périple initiatique : une poétique de la fluidité, paru en 2006, Sylvie Freyermuth, spécialiste de l’œuvre de Jean Rouaud, lui consacre ce second livre où elle dirige son attention vers les éléments de continuité de la création romanesque de cet auteur contemporain distingué du prix Goncourt pour son premier roman, Les champs d’honneur (1990). Au centre de cette démarche analytique se trouve le problème de la mémoire qui, selon Sylvie Freyermuth, s’avère le fondement de l’acte créateur de l’écrivain : c’est justement en se rappelant du passé que Rouaud arrive à exprimer sa vision sur le monde et notamment sur la création artistique. La mémoire est ainsi engagée directement et profondément dans l’écriture.
