  Abstract:   Nowadays, knowledge is the key difference in productivity and economic growth among various organizations. Information technology provides the means for codifying and exchanging knowledge. In order to remain competitive in the everchanging environment, organizations must find a way to benefit from the inherent knowledge by developing means of creating, sharing and disseminating it. Our main objective in this article is to present a brief survey of the literature concerning knowledge management describing the way collaborative systems provide support for leveraging knowledge and thus adding value to an organization.
