ABSTRACT:
The emergence of the Sino-Soviet split and implicitly the contestation of the ideological primacy of the Kremlin would have a negative impact on the unity of the Communist monolith. Both sides will relate differently to the events that had contributed to the tensioning of the Sino-Soviet relations, trying to underline the legitimacy of their own interpretation. Based on unpublished documents from the Romanian archives, this article aims to analyze the main views promoted by the USSR and China towards the emergence of the Sino-Soviet split, while trying at the same time to capture, on the basis of declassified documents, the elements omitted by both sides in explaining their own position.

Keywords: Marxism-Leninism, Nikita S. Khrushchev, Mao Zedong, Stalin, Sino-Soviet split, communism
