Abstract:  The second half of the XIX century proved to be a turning point in the history of Jews in Romania. Place on Romanian territory from ancient times, Jews brought with them their own tradition which, over the time, combined with the civilization and the culture of their adoptive country, resulting a synthesis from the most original. The economic development and modernization process that includes all the layers of the Romanian society in the middleof the nineteenth century occurred significant changes in its structure, which have been passed on to the Hebrew society from Principates. Actively involved in the economic development, the Jews have come to "identify with the process of modernization."
