  Article:   LOWER MIOCENE JELLYFISH IMPRINTS IN THE POIANA (VRANCEA COUNTY, ROMANIA) – A RARE CASE OF FOSSILIZATION.

  Abstract:  The fossil jellyfish are very rare in Romania (Patrulius and Iordan, 1964; Oaie, 1992). In Vrancea County, jellyfish impressions were identified in the Gray Formation from Bârseşti Scale in Subcarpathian Nappe (Fig. 1A, B), about 2 km west of Zăbala-Putna confluence, in the vicinity of Poiana village. Here, a stromatolitic level (Fig. 1C) is placed at about the middle part of the lithologic succession in the Gray Formation (Burdigalian-Lower Langhian); this stromatolitic level is made of two beds separated by thin silts and sandstones (Fig. 1D) and centimetric strata of undulatory stromatoliths.
