  Abstract:  The protection of the cultural heritage became more and more important in the last years. This is attended with high demands on all specialists which are involved. In respect to stone objects regarded as cultural heritage, the knowledge of their features and historical use is necessary. Germany is a country with many outcrops of sandstones in the middle and southern parts, as well as erratic blocks of sandstones in the northern part (Fig. 1).
