Abstract:  Some hundred pottery fragments from three different excavation sites in Cameroon were investigated archaeometrically with respect to the phase and chemical composition, fabric, and decoration. The sample material comes from Zamala (Delneuf et al., 1998) in the far North province, from Mombal (Lako, 2005) in the East province, and from Mfomakap (Elouga, 2001) in the central province. Together with the sherds regional clay material which is supposed to have been used by the potters was collected. The aim of the study is to relate the characteristics of the sherds to the raw materials and the production technologies.

Keywords: ancient ceramics, archaeometry, Cameroon.
