Abstract: The Dynamics of Vegetation on Puy de Pariou (French Massif Central) between 1974 and 1999. The contemporary epoch, characterised by deep changes in the agricultural and touristic activities at several levels (European, national, regional and local), has a certain impact upon the volcanic landscape of the French Central Massif. The present article attempts to highlight the changes in the landscape that occurred between 1974 and 1999 on the Puy de Pariou (8200 B.P.). The photo-interpretation and the field analyses have been used in order to draw up a basis of digital data, necessary for the mapping of the vegetal cover using the MapInfo programme. Several factors (ecological and social) have induced a dynamism characterised by the closing of the landscape, due to the forest re-conquest, more or less slow, on the slopes of the volcano. This phenomenon has been taking place especially on the fields abandoned by the human activities. | |||||||
