Abstract:  The Adaptability of Some Rural-Urban Migration Theories to the Romanian Society. The rural-urban migration has been the major territorial mobility form in the pre-1989 Romania, reshaping seriously the geographical space. After 1989 we noticed an increasing urban-rural migration under the conditions of de-industrialisation and of increasing subsistence agriculture as social buffer. On the example of the Bistriţa region we try to adapt two migration theories. The first, the Zelinsky model offers a macro spatial explanation for migration, which is quite important by regional analysis, examining how macro spatial processes are reflected on regional level. The second, the push-pull model is adaptable on regional level by producing some quantitative indicators required. One of the main conclusions of the study is, that both theories are adaptable to the romanian society, but there are also some serious limitations: in the case of Zelinsky model, the phases of migration occurs differently, given to the specific social structure and system of Romania. In addition this model doesn’t offer any explanations for the reversal of the rural-urban migration after 1989, the model being linear. In the case of push-pull model the limitations are introduced by the lacking regional statistic, and, as a consequence of this fact, by the limited indicator building possibilities.
