  Abstract:   Our paper questions the perception of the Romanians about the separation between the State and the Church in the post-communist space. We claim that the impossibility of the Romanian society to think religion in terms of individual and private choice should be placed in the large context of global power relations and should be seen as a defensive mechanism against the atomisation of communities and against global pressures.
