  Abstract:   The Globalization of Sport and Its Social and Economic Effects. This research is a theoretical one and it deals with globalization in sport, the social and economic effects of it and also with the implications of globalization in the development of sport around the world. In the first part, the research defines the term globalization, presents the globalization of sport and also the social and cultural dimension of sport as entertainment. In the second part, performance sport is presented as a part of the society, having an important set of economic and cultural values. Lately, sport has become an important economic and financial factor with important social and economic consequences. In this context, sport produces economic and social prosperity because of its implications: spending free time, improving physical condition, promoting social bonding and health improvement. The positive effects of sport influence demand, Incomes, jobs, economic development on local, regional and national level.
