  Abstract:

Thermodynamic properties (viscosities, refractive indices, and densities) for aqueous solutions of formic acid, acetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, lactic acid, and citric acid have been measured at T = 292.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The measurements were carried out over the whole range of composition. Investigations on these thermodynamic data help us to better understanding of interaction between solvent and solute molecules in these aqueous solutions. Also from these data, for aqueous solution of formic acid and acetic acid the excess molar volumes, viscosity deviations, and change of refractive indices on mixing were calculated and fitted to the Redlich-Kister polynomial equation to estimate the adjustable parameters and the standard errors. Also for aqueous solutions of this study the experimental values of refractive index and viscosity were correlated using the experimental equation and Jones-Dole equation, respectively.

Key words: Viscosity, Refractive index, Jones-Dole equation, Density, Excess molar volume.
