  Abstract:

The copolymers were synthesized by the microwave-assisted polycondensation of L-lactic acid (LA), ethylene glycol (EG) and terephthalic acid (TPA) (different ratio of monomers). Biodegradation tests of the obtained copolymers and microcrystalline cellulose (MC) were performed under controlled composting conditions using a standard test method (ISO 14855-1, 2005). It was observed that the biodegradation of copolymer with higher quantity of lactic acid was faster and more effective than the biodegradation of copolymer with smaller quantity of lactic acid.

Keywords: L-lactic acid, copolymer, microwave-assisted polycondensation, compost, biodegradation
