Abstract:  Two wood samples originating from the historic pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) of Ţebea, Romania, which died in 2005, were processed and radiocarbon dated by AMS for determining the age of the tree. The radiocarbon date of the oldest sample was 503 ± 25 BP, which corresponds to a calibrated calendar age of 580 ± 10 years. Taking into account the original position of this sample in the hollow trunk, one can estimate that the historic tree was around 800 years old.

Keywords: radiocarbon dating, accelerator mass spectrometry, pedunculate oak, age determination, calibration curve.
