Abstract:   The evolutionary history of plant species, as can be inferred from the genetic structure of their populations, is still poorly known for the Carpathian flora. While (comparative) phylogeography has provided important insights into the spatio-temporal evolution of flora and fauna of other European mountains (especially the Alps), we still have fragmentary information from the Carpathians, that is largely based on investigations of plants inhabiting the highest, (sub)alpine habitats.
