STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF THE ZOOPLANKTON COMMUNITY IN THE ŞTIUCII LAKE (NORTH-WESTERN ROMANIA). Authors: TRAIAN BRAD. |
||||||
Abstract: In a pelagic station of the Ştiucii Lake situated in North-Western Romania two species of copepods (Cyclops vicinus Uljanin, 1875 and Mesocyclops (Thermocyclops) crassus Rehberg, 1880) and four species of cladocerans (Daphnia galeata Sars, 1864; Bosmina longirostris O.F.M., 1785; Ceriodaphnia pulchella Sars, 1862; Chydorus sphaericus O.F.M., 1785) were identified. Their density and population structure were seasonally changing. Density of these organisms increased at higher temperatures of the lake water, respectively from winter to summer, and then decreased in autumn. In the seasonal succession of the zooplankton community, Mesocyclops (Thermocyclops) crassus replaced Cyclops vicinus in summer. Ceriodaphnia pulchella (Cladocera) appeared in summer and then disappeared in autumn. In the population structure of copepods a dominance of the males was observed at every sampling. The maximum fertility of the cladoceran species was registered in spring (Bosmina longirostris) and in summer (Daphnia galeata). | |||||||
