Abstract: Equity in Health. The Ideal of Zero Influence of Social Determinants in Health. Empirical evidence about the social determinants of health is a real challenge for public health policy in every country, irrespective of its welfare level. This paper argues that the task of equalizing public health disparities due to socioeconomic factors is properly read as expressing the imperative of reducing to zero their influence on health. In the social justice literature, there are several intuitions which seem to support this imperative. Two of these intuitions and some of their related difficulties are discussed in this study. Key words: social determinants of health, luck egalitarianism, spheres of justice, health inequities |
