  Abstract:  While trying to define the tasks and responsibilities of the religion teacher, the pastoral aspect of his/her vocation should be expressed. It is no longer a question, whether she/he has the right to intervene (interfere) in students’ personal lives, it is a however a general requirement to help students remove the obstacles from their lives. Rogers’1 views about “student-centred learning” – in which the students are trusted to participate in developing and to take charge of their own learning agendas – are prompted and used worldwide in the schools. Started from this idea the goal of this study is to present “student–centred communication” as a helping method in the process of problem solving in teacher-student relationship. “Non-directive”, “client centred” or “person (student) centred” are terms C. Rogers used successively for his helping method. This method involves removing obstacles so the client can move forward, freeing him or her for normal growth and development. It emphasizes being fully present with the client and helping the latter truly feel his or her own feelings, desires etc. Being “nondirective” lets the client deal with what he or she considers important at his or her own pace. Reflection, reflective listening, “active listening” is the technique in which the teacher mirrors or repeats, in his or her own words, what the student has just said. In order to be successful in practising a helping profession, one needs a constructive attitude towards problems and assignments as well. Basic characteristics of the helper should be: empathic understanding, congruence, unconditional positive regard, professional altruism and mature authority. The pitfall of dealing with problem students is the phenomenon of burn-out. The study aims to point out the first signs, the causes of burn-out and also to present constructive intervention techniques. Suggestions are made regarding how to combat burn-out syndrome, as well.
