Article:   THE DOCTRINE OF ELECTION AND FINAL PERSEVERANCE IN JOHN NEWTON’S THEOLOGY.

Authors:  CIPRIAN SIMUŢ.

Abstract:  Election and final perseverance are just two of the doctrines John Newton mentions in his letter to various individuals. In his letter On Election and Final Perseverance, Newton explains the doctrines in light of the work of Christ. Before he even starts explaining them, he speaks of God’s work in connection to the fallen man. He believes that his friend must also look first to God, through the study of the Bible, and gradually come to grips with each doctrine. Election and final perseverance, Newton believes, are intrinsically connected to God’s love, grace; Christ’s work and intercession and the Holy Spirit’s guidance throughout man life. The end of the earthly life is eternity, which, man receives while on earth, because of election and perseverance.

Keywords: election, perseverance, grace, Scripture, peace.
