Abstract:  László Ravasz and Education. In relation to our subject we seek answer to the following questions: Who was László Ravasz? Why is his person so significant? We shall turn our attention to everything he says about education in general and Sunday school program in particular. The views on questions of education of László Ravasz (1882–1975) are fundamentally determined by his thinking about children. In a lecture given at Kecskemét he spoke of children as little preachers. He unequivocally emphasizes that education involves responsibility: Do everything and use every opportunity for the child to come under the influence of his/her Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ, and for he/she to remain under his guidance and protection. As for Sunday school teaching he pointed out that originally it was a kind of substitute for school and later became a substitute for religious education not in the study program of the schools. As for the distinction between the two he wrote: Over against the religious program in the schools Sunday school education emphasizes more the aspects of mission and worship than on the intellectual side of education. Therefore its material is more universal, i.e. one that can be used working with children coming from different kinds of schools that they might participate and be edified. Examining his sketches and notes we see that they have not only sketches, but they also had text and even title. After every sketch there are songs chosen chosen from the Hymnbook. In every case there is the date and a number of the series. The title includes the fixed aim to be achieved without directly mentioning it… In case of being away he would write in his booklet the reason for not being present: E.g. On May 25th I had to go to Budapest. The advice he has given: Education is on of the most important laws of the world… It is the main artery through which the spiritual life energies of humankind flow being renewed all the time. It should be the most important task and responsibility of every generation to pass on what it has inherited and what I have developed to the coming generations.
