  Abstract:

How do we regard Calvin? As a man of the middle age, who has made his the step towards modernity? As a person, who has emphasized that due to the Latin language too few people read the Bible and don’t know what stays written in it? Calvin has brought the message that Bible should be read in the people’s language, and they should decide who is their pastor, elder or deacon. He emphasized the importance of singing the psalms, because he thought that among Bible reading is very important that the people know how to sing. His commentaries about the Bible, and the Institution of Christian religion had a stunning effect in his age, and is used even today. We thank Calvin a lot. For instance the citizen, who claims his truth and has a right to vote. He considered very important that everybody could formulate what does he believe in and what not, and can confess what he believes and does. The book of Imre Révész: The Life of Calvin and the Calvinism, written on the 300th anniversary of his death (1864) in the preface presents how was Calvin with his simplicity and puritan lifestyle.„Today we remember 300 years since the remnants of the reformer of world his¬torical value of the Christian Church, Calvin, have been buried in the cemetery of Geneva, in an unmarked and today absolutely unknown grave. In the simple and still so tormented situation in which Calvin had lived, and only with the power of pen and words, nobody had achieved more great things than he did. From the mountains of Eastern Transylvania to those from Scotland, from the French shores to Northern America can we see the traces of the influence of his great spirit, which had not only fought for the pure doctrines of Christianity, but also changed the lifestyle and character of whole peoples, strengthened them and made them noble.”
