  Abstract:  În curgerea vremii, diferite cadre didactice laice sau teologi nehirotoniţi au predat în cadrul învăţământului teologic universitar ortodox din ţara noastră, făcând cinste Bisericii străbune; între aceştia un loc aparte îl ocupă şi profesorul-teolog Emilian Popescu, cel care a onorat, cu demnitate, catedrele de Bizantinologie de la Institutul Teologic Universitar din Bucureşti (respectiv Facultatea de Teologie) şi de la Facultăţile de Teologie Ortodoxă din Cluj-Napoca şi Iaşi. Cu prilejul împlinirii a 75 de ani de viaţă, Domnia Sa a fost omagiat printr-un minunat volum, al cărui titlu l-am pomenit mai sus, evidenţiindu-se calităţile de bun dascăl, arheolog, istoric şi teolog. La sărbătoarea omagierii au participat, prin scris, înalte personalităţi bisericeşti şi laice, mulţi ucenici. Materialul primit spre omagiere a fost rânduit de către coordonatori în mai multe părţi: pe diferite probleme şi perioade istorice.
