Abstract:  Theology – Social Work. The Arguments of the Specialization and the Necessity of the Profession. Most of the Theological Faculties in Romania, irrespective of confession, train for more than two decades social workers within a theological specialization, a fact which is not reflected in the legislation regulating the work market. It is an anomaly which inevitably came to term. The acknowledgement of theologian-social work profession was unreasonably postponed until now, if we take into account the school numbers. In other words, the State afforded the luxury of financing specializations which have no total correspondent in the Romanian Classification of Occupations (RCO). Regarding the Orthodox Church, which is of majority, without having until now a coherent strategy concerning the personal of its own philanthropic institutions, it is faced in the present with a situation which requires a solution. The present pages, based on two recent documents, aim at pointing out the effort of identifying the status of a specialization, permanently underlining the necessity of the profession.

Keywords: social theology, Orthodoxy, work market, profession, theologian-social worker.
