Abstract:  A Social-Theological Survey. The recent financial crisis, transformed by its immediate effects into an economic, social and political one, challenged not only the theoreticians of the profane sciences, but also the theologians. The eminently ethic character of the crisis, due to a long and complex series of systemic and personal abuses, legitimately requires a social-theological reading, too. The reactions of the local Orthodox Churches to this crisis were different in kind and intensity. The present study displays the positions of the Orthodox Churches in Russia and Greece.

Keywords: financial crisis, ethics, Orthodox social theology, Russia, Greece.
